In one of the most comprehensive scholarly works of its kind within the region, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Professor Sir Hilary Beckles has been honoured for his distinguished contributions to academia and as a social justice advocate and administrator.          

The University of the West Indies (UWI) mourns the passing of Emeritus Professor of English, Edward Alston Cecil Baugh, a quintessential scholar and gentleman who exemplified the ideals of The University of the West Indies, both as a student and later as an academic who spent thirty-five immensely productive and intellectually impactful years here as a teacher, writer, administrator, and scholar. His death on December 9, 2023 represents an immense loss to Caribbean literary studies. A Renaissance man, Professor Emeritus Edward Baugh, was a poet, scholar, teacher, actor, and relentless proselytizer for Anglophone Caribbean literature and criticism.

 A sweet venture unfolded at The University of the West Indies' (The UWI) Cave Hill Campus on October 20 as The UWI’s world-renowned Cocoa Research Centre (CRC) introduced its signature chocolates to the Barbados market. This 'soft launch', which coincided with the graduation ceremonies, marked the CRC's first foray into the Barbadian market. The launch, led by Pro Vice-Chancellor and St. Augustine Campus Principal, Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, which was also attended by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, and the Cave Hill Campus Principal Professor Clive Landis, sets a new benchmark for CRC’s expansion into the region towards growing the appeal for quality, regional chocolate products.

Several regional and international organizations have recently banded together to fight crime across the region.
