Having recited the Hippocratic Oath, a time-honored tradition for medical graduates, over 40 newly minted physicians-in-waiting are poised to formally take up duties as doctors. The Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Class of 2024 of The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus participated in an Oath Taking Ceremony on July 30. The Oath, a rite of passage for medical professionals symbolizes their commitment to ethical medical practices and compassionate patient care, serving as a solemn promise to uphold the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism in the field of medicine.
 

The Most Reverend Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, is set to receive an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree from The University of the West Indies (The UWI) during a special convocation on Saturday, July 20. This ceremony will coincide with his visit to Jamaica from July 18-21 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the Diocese of Jamaica and The Cayman Islands. It will be held at the E. Nigel Harris Council Room at The UWI Regional Headquarters in Kingston from 4:00 p.m. local time, 5:00 p.m. Eastern Caribbean/AST. The University of the West Indies (The UWI) at Cave Hill is thrilled to announce its partnership with key stakeholders in the development of agricultural lands at the Dukes Agri Industrial Park. Tillage towards crop growth and research has begun in earnest on the groundbreaking project which was made possible by the donation of 14 acres of prime agricultural land from esteemed benefactors Charles and Vanessa Edghill, and which marks a transformative step in advancing agricultural innovation in Barbados.

Students at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Cave Hill Campus are set to benefit from expanded opportunities in international trade policy research and professional development, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between The UWI and the Shridath Ramphal Centre for International Trade Law, Policy and Services (SRC) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
 
The agreement, signed on June 18th, 2024, by Principal of The UWI Cave Hill Campus Professor Clive Landis and UNCTAD Deputy Secretary-General Pedro Manuel Moreno, promises to enhance the educational experience for students in the Masters in International Trade Policy (MITP) program, including their annual study tour to Geneva, and promote research in trade and trade related areas that the SRC has been leading on over the past years. The signing took place at the UN Palais in Geneva, Switzerland, coinciding with the annual study tour of Geneva undertaken by the MITP students from the SRC.
