You should also check the Faculty Handbook to view the courses which are required for your programme. Each programme is made up of four Levels: Level I, Level II, Level III and Foundation Courses. To reassure yourselves about the conversion process and become familiar with applying the formulae, students are encouraged to use the GPA calculator<\/a> to calculate their degree and cumulative GPAs.<\/div>\n <\/div> \n \n \n \n How do you apply to do a course by \u201cExams Only\u201d?<\/a><\/strong>\n <\/li>\n \n \n A Final Year student can request permission from the Student Affairs – Examinations Section, through the Dean, to register for one or two courses by ‘Exams Only’. Exams Only permits the student to complete the course without attending instructional sessions and without submitting coursework. To be eligible, the student should have been previously registered, attended classes and completed all course work for the said course. Exams Only may be granted in cases where students were unable to complete the exam on medical grounds or under exceptional circumstances. <\/li>\n <\/li>\n NOTE: Exams Only will not be granted for a first time course attempt.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/div> \n \n \n \n If a student fails a course and repeats it, how does this affect their GPA?<\/a><\/strong>\n <\/li>\n \n \n Failed courses are included in the Semester GPA calculations, as well as the Degree GPA calculation; therefore, failing a course serves to lower one’s GPA. If the course is repeated and passed, the grade obtained is also used in the calculation of one’s GPA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/div> \n \n \n \n If a student pursues enough credits in any discipline, will he\/she automatically be awarded a major\/minor in that discipline?<\/a><\/strong>\n <\/li>\n \n \n No, this will not be automatic. A student must submit a Change of Major form to the Dean’s Office for approval by the Dean.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/div> \n \n \n \n What happens if you get sick during the semester or before an exam?<\/a><\/strong>\n <\/li>\n \n \n You should visit the Student Health Clinic to be assessed by the doctor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/div> \n \n \n \n What happens if you miss an examination?<\/a><\/strong>\n <\/li>\n \n $\"\"$ <\/p>\n Candidates who are absent from an examination due to illness must report to the Student Health Clinic.<\/p>\n A Candidate who fails to attend an examination will be deemed Failed Absent (FA) from the examination.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div> \n \n \n \n What is a Warning status?<\/a><\/strong>\n <\/li>\n \n \n A student is placed on Warning status after a single semester of GPA below 2.0.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/div> \n \n \n \n What is Required to Withdraw \u201cRTW\u201d status?<\/a><\/strong>\n <\/li>\n \n \n A student is placed on "RTW" status after two consecutive semesters of GPA below 2.0. A student on RTW status must stay out of the University system for one academic year and then apply for re-entry to the University. The application period is normally November to January.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/div> \n \n \n \n What is the purpose of the Grade Point Average (GPA)?<\/a><\/strong>\n <\/li>\n \n The Grade Point Average (GPA) is the mechanism used for determining the Class of Degree. It allows students and graduates to link easily with programmes in other institutions around the world.<\/div>\n <\/div> \n \n \n \n When do you have examinations?<\/a><\/strong>\n <\/li>\n \n During the semester, students are given in-course tests and practical examinations, which are scheduled by each department. In some cases, there are mid-semester examinations. Students are normally required to write Final examinations at the end of each semester, December, April\/May and at the end of the summer session in July, which are all organized by the Examinations Section.<\/div>\n <\/div> \n \n \n \n When is a student on Academic Warning or Required to Withdraw (RTW)?<\/a><\/strong>\n <\/li>\n \n Students with a GPA in Semester I or II that is less than 2.00 will receive a warning notification. If a student is warned for any two (2) successive semesters in an academic year, he\/she will be required to withdraw from the University at the end of that academic year. However, a Waiver of Requirement to Withdraw<\/em><\/strong> may be granted, usually once, and at the discretion of the Dean.
